The Spectacle of Death (Through the Eyes of someone living) WW1 Field Hospital Camp Bed, Analog TV, Wireless Field Camera, Tuned Static (2018)

The Spectacle of Death, is a site specific sculptural situation developed form a relation to the space it is set in. The work consists of a World War I field hospital camp bed upon which an analog television resets. The television is displaying real time footage of the audience looking at the work itself. The image is distorted on the threshold of its breaking point. The sound coming out of the television is a rendition of The Flowers of the Forest a Traditional Scottish Lament, usually played by a solo piper that it used to commemorate fallen soldiers within the Commonwealth. The tune was created by tuning television static until the desired tone is reached and then sampling each tone in order to be able to record the final version that can be heard from the television itself.
